Tariq’s Answers: Muslims & Islamophobia

How will you strengthen relationships and trust between police services and Muslim communities?

“

My goal is simple: Muslim Londoners should see police officers not only as law enforcement officials, but as trusted partners in their safety and well-being. Muslim community liaison committee is the gateway.

How will you work with mosques, Islamic schools, and Muslim organizations to improve community safety and emergency preparedness?

“

We will Work with police and community leaders to strengthen security around mosques, Islamic schools, and community centres, particularly during religious gatherings.

What steps will you take to address Islamophobia and anti-Muslim discrimination?

“

As Mayor i will ensure Zero Tolerance for Islamophobia, Hate Crimes, Public incitement of hatred & every form of Discrimination and Prejudice.

How will you ensure Muslim residents and community organizations have a meaningful voice in municipal decision-making?

“

Community Advisory council and Mayor’s faith & community partnership forum, regular dialogue with diverse faith leaders on practical municipal issues while respecting and complementing existing advisory structures.

How will you support Muslim organizations that provide community services, settlement support, youth programming, food assistance, and other essential services?

“

Trust is not built through speeches or occasional meetings. It is built through respect, understanding, consistent communication, and actions.

How can the city provide a more nuanced approach to zoning for religious institutions (such as mosques) given their practices, cultures and needs differ?

“

Zoning policies should respect the diversity of religious practices, not force every faith community into a one-size-fits-all system. Mosques experience higher attendance during Friday prayers, Ramadan, and Eid . Faith-sensitive planing is the solution.

What do you think is the greatest problem the ward is facing, and how do you plan to address it?

“

I am running for Mayor to ensure Zero Tolerance for Islamophobia, Hate Crimes, Public incitement of hatred & every form of Discrimination and Prejudice.

How will you ensure that anti-racism and EDI policies explicitly recognize and address anti-Palestinian racism where it occurs?

“

I believe anti-Palestinian racism must be explicitly recognized and addressed wherever it occurs, just as we address antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Black racism, and all other forms of discrimination.

How will you ensure that your city’s commitments to freedom of expression, anti-racism, religious freedom, and equal treatment are applied consistently across all communities, including when issues are politically contentious?

“

Fundamental rights must never depend on someone’s religion, ethnicity, political views, or which side of a controversial issue they support. I believe freedom of expression, religious freedom, equality, and protection from discrimination must apply equally to every Londoner, without exceptions or political favouritism.
