ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP

The Canadian-Muslim Vote Fellowship is a flagship leadership development program that equips young Muslims with the tools, networks, and experiences to engage in Canada’s civic and political landscape. Over the course of the program, fellows will gain firsthand insight into how change happens, from grassroots organizing to parliamentary politics, and develop the skills needed to drive it.

Develop Leadership Skills

This fellowship is about more than politics — it also focuses on advancing essential leadership skills. Fellows will develop their communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, all of which are crucial for success as a future leader.

Expand Your Network

Fellows will meet and work with various professionals, including policymakers, politicians, and community leaders to foster important connections, helping pave the way for future career opportunities.

National Summit

As the Fellowship concludes, participants embark on an exciting journey to the National Summit—a dynamic in person conference that extends the Fellowship experience. Attendees join cohorts nationwide for enriching talks, interactive workshops, and exciting tours, all funded by TCMV's Civic Leadership Institute.

Program Overview

Program Structure

Summer Training (June–August)

Weekly evening sessions in downtown Toronto focused on civic education, political literacy, and practical skill-building. Sessions include:

    • Guest speakers and panels
    • Workshops on communications, advocacy, and community organizing
    • A full mock election simulation

 

Professional Civic Engagement Opportunity (September–December)

Fellows will participate in a flexible, real-world experience tailored to their interests and availability.
Options may include:

    • Working with a Member of Parliament or MPP office (limited participants may get the opportunity to relocate to Ottawa)
    • Contributing to a nonprofit or advocacy organization (e.g. Islamic Relief, CMPAC)
    • Engaging in a field-aligned project in areas like law, medicine, engineering, or education

This component is mandatory for successful completion of the program and is designed to fit alongside work or school commitments.

Who Should Apply

This fellowship is for young Muslims in Canada, aged 18–29, who are eager to grow as civic leaders. You should apply if:

    • You’re available for in-person weekly evening sessions in downtown Toronto (mid-June to August 2025)
    • You can complete a Professional Civic Engagement Opportunity (September–December 2025), either remotely or in person
    • You’re passionate about public service, advocacy, or community leadership, or simply curious to learn more
    • You may be a student, recent graduate, or working professional seeking meaningful civic experience
    • No prior political experience is required

Who is this fellowship for?

Young Muslims in Canada (ages 18–29) interested in public service, advocacy, or civic engagement, from all academic and professional backgrounds.

What is the time commitment?

Fellows must commit to weekly evening sessions spanning 4 – 5 hours in downtown Toronto from mid-June to August, plus a professional civic engagement opportunity from September to December.

I work or study full time. Can I still apply?

Yes! The fellowship is designed with flexibility in mind. Summer sessions are in the evenings, and the fall opportunity can be adapted to fit your schedule.

What is the Professional Civic Engagement Opportunity?

It’s a practical experience where fellows contribute to an MP/MPP office, nonprofit, advocacy group, or sector-relevant initiative between September and December. It’s mandatory to complete the program and designed to be flexible.

Do I have to be in Toronto for the fall component?

No, while the summer portion is in-person, the fall opportunity can be completed anywhere in Canada, including remotely.

Do I need prior political or civic experience?

Not at all. We welcome both beginners and those with some experience.

Are the summer sessions in person?

Yes. Fellows must attend weekly in-person evening sessions in downtown Toronto from June to August.

What does the mock election involve?

It’s a dynamic simulation where fellows form political teams, campaign, and debate, learning how politics works by doing it.

Is there a cost to participate?

No, the TCMV Fellowship is free. All training and resources are covered.

Can I choose where I do my fall opportunity?

Yes. We’ll consider your interests and can support self-initiated placements too.

Will travel or housing be covered for the MP placements in Ottawa?

We’re exploring a small number of MP placements in Ottawa. If you express interest, more information will be shared if you’re selected.
