Muslim residents deserve a meaningful voice in community safety. I would advocate for a Muslim community advisory group with Halton Regional Police, drawing on Peel’s approach. This would include mosque representatives, women and youth. I would also push for dedicated police contacts and consistent follow-up on hate incidents to build lasting trust

During Ramadan and Friday prayers, our mosques welcome hundreds of families. Their safety deserves thoughtful preparation. I would work with Milton Fire and Halton Police to arrange tailored emergency drills, make existing safety programs more accessible, and establish direct communication with mosque and school leaders during emergencies.

No one should feel unsafe wearing a hijab or accessing public services. Building on London’s anti-Islamophobia action plan, I would work with Muslim residents to improve staff training, discrimination reporting and community education. Most importantly, I would require public progress updates so residents see meaningful action, not just promises.

Through Doorstep Diaries, I’ve learned that listening means little without follow-through. I would bring that approach to Town Hall, meeting Muslim residents where they’re comfortable, ensuring women and youth have independent voices, and reporting how their input shapes decisions. I want residents to recognize the same person they first met.

The focus will be on limiting barriers. Organizations serving Milton families shouldn’t struggle with funding or affordable space. I’d help connect them with Halton’s Community Investment Fund, explore affordable Town facilities through Alive After Five, and ensure Muslim organizations know about alternatives to casino-funded grants.

Mosques are more than prayer spaces; they’re community hubs. Building on Milton’s Places of Worship Study, I would involve faith organizations earlier in planning, review parking requirements around Friday prayers and Ramadan, and explore shared parking. Like Mississauga, we should have clearer zoning rules on educational and community activities.

Milton is growing faster than the opportunities residents need. My priorities address this: Careers Close to Home would attract local jobs through temporary tax incentives; Transit Every 20 would improve bus frequency; and Alive After Five would bring more community activities to existing spaces. Every neighbourhood deserves to benefit from growth.

I would explicitly recognize anti-Palestinian racism in Milton’s anti-racism policies, working directly with Palestinian residents. This means staff training, accessible complaints processes, and protecting cultural expression. Drawing on London’s equity assessments, I would review Town services and publicly report progress.

I’ve learned from Milton residents that disagreement doesn’t have to mean disrespect. As mayor, I would protect lawful expression and religious freedom through consistent rules for public spaces, community events and Council participation. Decisions should respect human rights, with clear explanations and fair review processes.
