Maryam Khalil
I am a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia studying International Relations and minoring in Creative Writing. With a passion for human rights and advocacy, I have worked with several NGOs such as Islamic Relief Canada as a regional volunteer and as the Marketing Director for IRC @ UBC. I have also worked with community organizations such as Place Maillardville to provide cost-free programs for children whose families are facing financial constraints. Lastly, I have volunteered with The Refugee Health Initiative, a translating program for refugees aimed at providing better healthcare by breaking down language barriers. As an aspiring immigration lawyer, I hope to utilize my background in international relations to effectively advocate for marginalized communities, influence policy changes that promote social justice, and provide comprehensive legal support to immigrants and refugees, ensuring their rights are protected and their voices are heard.
