Ruqiya Ghulam
I am a 4th year Political Science student specializing in Public Law and Judicial Studies at McMaster University. Through my volunteer and charitable work, I have demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and social justice. As Team Lead with the McMaster Muslim Student Association, I organized impactful food drives and fundraisers, including efforts to provide hot meals for the homeless and support charities like Nisa Homes. I also developed a strategic partnership with a local restaurant to enhance our service capabilities.
I led the “Feed the Hungry in our Community” initiative, raising $16,000 in collaboration with Penny Appeal to support disadvantaged families during Ramadan. My dedication to education and empowerment is reflected in my volunteer work with Youth Empowering Parents (YEP), where I created tailored lesson plans to teach children how to read.
Additionally, I established a Volunteer Network at McMaster MSA, connecting Muslim students with businesses and organizations to engage in valuable work, which helped boost their career prospects and strengthen community ties. My efforts in these areas showcase a deep commitment to social justice, educational advocacy, and creating a more equitable society.
