Grassroots in Action: TCMV at the Mississauga By-Election

Making Our Voices Count in Mississauga

The 2024 Mississauga Mayoral By-Election was a pivotal moment for local democracy—and The Canadian Muslim Vote (TCMV) was on the ground, ensuring the Muslim community was fully informed, engaged, and empowered to participate. With critical municipal issues like housing, transit, and public services on the ballot, TCMV recognized the importance of amplifying the Muslim voice in shaping the future of one of Canada’s most diverse cities.

Through our Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaign, TCMV mobilized a passionate network of volunteers who canvassed neighborhoods, ran information booths at mosques and community centers, and distributed non-partisan educational materials across Mississauga. The team also conducted interviews with mayoral candidates and shared them widely, giving voters access to clear, direct insights on the candidates’ positions. These efforts helped demystify the voting process and encouraged greater civic participation, especially among first-time and younger voters.

This campaign demonstrated the strength of grassroots organizing and the power of community-led civic education. TCMV’s work during the Mississauga By-Election is a shining example of how local engagement drives real impact—helping voters feel confident, represented, and motivated to shape the outcomes of their own communities. It’s one more reason why supporting TCMV means supporting meaningful, inclusive democracy from the ground up.
